How to Decide:
It may be helpful to decide which bundle to get depending on the amount and size of plants you will be putting into the cabinet! The more space you want to utilize and organize in your cabinet, it may be better to get the sets with more shelves and accessories. You can maximize all of the spaces in your cabinet by getting the pegboards, accessories, and the risers if you have smaller plants, propagations, and seedlings.

Preparing for the Winter!
An IKEA Greenhouse Cabinet can be very helpful with maintaining a controlled environment for your tropical plants to mimic their native conditions. Plants will never know abut winter time, and wont go into dormancy because it’ll feel like it is summer all year long with the greenhouse!
Having an IKEA Greenhouse cabinet during the winter time can protect your beautiful indoor house plants and rare tropical plants from going into dormancy. Plants can continue to thrive in their controlled environments from these greenhouses, growing as if it is summer all year round. Here are some considerations that may be helpful in preparing for the cold season!
Growlights
Many people install grow lights into their Greenhouse Cabinet set up to provide an optimal environment for their plants to grow. During the winter time, it is crucial for the plants to have these grow lights as the days can be shorter (less natural light) and the lights could even provide some warmth in the cabinet. You can use timers for these growlights for an automated set up to provide 12-16 hours of light per day for your plants. Growlights that we use at home and at our shop are from Soltech Solutions, including the Highland Lights, Aspect lights, and Grove lights. We use the Grove lights for the cabinets.
Heatmat/Seedling Mat
A seedling mat can help with keeping a consistent temperature for your plants Especially for propagations and corms, I would use a seedling mat inside of the cabinet. The warmth and humidity can help in promoting the roots to grow faster and healthier in our experience! Because it is a fairly low temperature, we tend to just have plants directly on top of the mat and it doesn’t significantly increase the temperature in the entire cabinet but it can definitely help during the winter. Weatherstripping & Humidifiers
Weather stripping can be helpful with sealing in the humidity and keeping a consistent temperature. Depending on where you live, winters can be extremely cold AND dry! Sealing in the humidity can be very helpful for your tropical plants to mimic the environment that they are native to. When the cabinets are well weatherstripped, you may not need actual humidifiers to increase your humidity. You can put pebble trays inside to increase humidity, on your seedling mat. The more plants you have in your cabinet, you can also stabilize and maintain your humidity (so get those plants on. your bucketlist!). Putting actual humidifiers can be quite risky and dangerous as stated by electricians, so please try your best to try other methods for your safety. Maintaining your Cabinet
Maintenance for your IKEA Greenhouse can not only support the longevity of your cabinet’s life but also the health of your plants too! A little refresh of your cabinet can be very helpful for your lovely plants as well as a mental reset for yourself as well!
Now that you have your customized IKEA Greenhouse cabinet running, maintaining your cabinet is a very important task to keep in mind to keep the environment optimal and healthy for your plants! Here are some tips that we keep in mind when we refresh our cabinet. We try our best to clean about once a month.
Take out all of your Plants
Pressurized Sprayer can be helpful with cleaning your cabinet. Mix water and a gentle cleaning solution.
Removing all of your plants may be a bit of a hassle, but can be helpful to get all of the areas of your cabinet for a deep clean. We like to remove everything and spray down the cabinet with cleaning solution. Some people have shared that they use a pressurized spray (with water and soap) in order to spray down the entire cabinet. We often just use Windex for the windows and an All-Purpose cleaner, but we feel that if you have a lot of cabinets then this pressurized spray idea would be a great method.
Wipe down all areas of the Cabinet
Using cloth or paper towels, wipe down all areas of your cabinet. Depending on the levels of humidity in your cabinet, it can be important to clean your cabinet thoroughly to prevent mold.
Maintaining Acrylic Shelves
Taking extra steps for your acrylic shelves and accessories can also be helpful in maintaining and extending the longevity! We use this Acrylic Cleaner for our acrylic shelves. This can help clean, polish, and protect your acrylic shelves. It also helps with anti-static, preventing dust and debris from sticking to the shelves.
Return Plants into Cabinet
Dry completely or air out if you wish, and return all of the plants into the cabinet. We try to clean about once a month but of course, aren’t perfect and so some months are left untouched— that’s okay! We have never found any huge issues come up if you don’t clean it. It is more for how it looks and might be a nice opportunity to re-arrange your cabinet!
